Ramana's Seva Samiti an NGO 11 years ago 75% of all village children in Garhwal were illiterate, suffering malnutrition. Village schools were few and far between, often unsafe, condemned buildings without teachers, clean water, or sanitation. Our area had the highest infant mortality rate and lowest woman’s literacy rate in India. The very life force of these beautiful Himalayan people was bleeding out through heavy migration to cities in hope of survival, creating a viscous circle of abandonment, poverty, and despair for those remaining here in hopelessness.
